An award-winning travel photographer and published poet, I turned to painting when I moved from Italy to London, initially inspired by Lucian Freud’s brutal honesty and London street art.

About me

I am a painter, photographer and poet

I’ve always done things my own way.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved creating. I loved taking photos, especially while travelling, and I still love it. I made necklaces. I wrote poetry, and I even managed to publish some of them. I started painting on glass for fun, and I gave my brother one of my works as a gift. His favourite ever present, he said. But I still thought I wasn’t able to draw or paint. Perhaps someone at school convinced me it was not something I could do.

When I moved to London, I lived in a residential area for a couple of years. It felt like being in the countryside. I was lonely, I worked from home and knew nobody. To make friends, I signed up to art classes in the backyard of the local church…. Boom! Everything changed. I started spending all my free time painting and drawing. I realised that we are all different, we are all unique. Everybody at the class drew the same thing in a very personal way. We could all express our voice through art, and I loved it.

After many workshops, classes, exhibitions and art fairs, I still think that art is the best way to be myself.

As an artist, I am fascinated by the complexity and extreme manifestations of nature. I am interested in the drama of human faces, and the fine line between tension and equilibrium. I am intrigued by the inner workings of the mind, especially when it’s in a state of flow.

Continually curious, I admire independence, honesty, and the ability to make an impact through personal voice.

I love the feeling of freedom when I’m alone in nature, the feeling of nature’s power when the wind is blowing, the sea is high, and you are on the verge of a Norwegian cliff. Nature is colours, movement, it is strong and gentle, it is chaos and calm. In nature, I feel alive and at ease.

In my portraits, I am less interested in showing the outward appearance than in expressing the inner striving and what lies behind the eyes. I am often inspired by contemporary dance and theatre performances when conflict and emotional strain strive for balance.

Another major source of inspiration is my moving meditation practice, when time stands still, and everything seems to make sense. For a while.

I often start from photos taken by myself or sometimes I find photos that inspire me. I mostly use acrylics because they allow multiple changes of direction and a strong contrast in layers. I work with big brush strokes. When I paint, I look for both tension and strength, where emotions can be expressed through bold colours, like red or purple. In my more abstract and material works, I’m looking for textures and contrasts to convey energy. I paint with energetic brush strokes, curvy lines, evocative drips, gestural mark-making, which give a contemporary expressive feel to my artworks.
